Mobility and Flexibility: same or different?

There is quite a bit of confusion about these two terms so I thought would be nice to shed some light.

So, when we talk about Flexibility we normally mean a PASSIVE range of motion of a joint and the soft tissues surrounding it.

Mobility, on the other hand, is an ACTIVE range of motion and most importantly, control of a joint and the tissues around it.

The two go hand in hand and it is very hard to have good mobility with limited flexibility. It is however possible to be flexible but with limited mobility.

To fully benefit from your exercises and limit connective tissue injuries and joint degradation, joint mobility is key. Good news is that even if you are lacking joint mobility, you can improve it by doing regular mobilisation drills.
